Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, also known as a “nose job”, is a procedure that aims to enhance facial harmony and balance by making sure that the nose is symmetrical and proportional to your other facial features. It does this by changing the shape of the bridge or tip, increasing or reducing the size and angle of the nose, removing bumps, and narrowing the nostrils. This procedure may also help ease breathing difficulties.

Dr. Christopher Salgado of Constructive Surgery Associates is one of Miami’s top board-certified plastic surgeons. He crafts the noses of over 50 men and women in Miami and its nearby areas annually, each procedure resulting in long-lasting aesthetic and functional enhancements.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

Before The Procedure

You will first meet Dr. Salgado during an initial consultation, where he will have a chance to evaluate the overall quality of your nose as well as your complete medical history. He will perform various examinations to determine the rhinoplasty technique that will best address your concerns. The consultation will also allow Dr. Salgado to confirm if you are an ideal candidate for rhinoplasty.

During The Procedure

The typical nose job is commonly an outpatient procedure that takes 2 – 5 hours to complete and may be performed under local or general anesthesia depending on the level of your comfort.

Dr. Salgado will mark ideal incision sites on your nose using a surgical pen. He will then use incisions along the marked sites to resize and reshape your nasal skin and cartilage.

Excess skin that does not conform to your new nose will be removed, and any nasal obstructive issues that are present preoperatively will be addressed.

Techniques

Open Rhinoplasty

A technique that creates an incision at the base of the columella, the skin that separates the nostrils. This allows the tip to be lifted, giving Dr. Salgado a clear view of the nose’s whole anatomy.

Open rhinoplasty often leads to drastic changes in the final nasal structure.

Closed Rhinoplasty

This technique creates an incision on the inside of the nose to keep any scarring out of sight. The skin will be lifted, and Dr. Salgado will remove, reshape, or rearrange nasal tissue in order to enhance the nose. Due to the location of the incision, this is only compatible with relatively minor changes.

Ethnic Rhinoplasty

A complex procedure that preserves the different natural nasal intricacies of Non-Caucasian ethnicities.

Ethnic rhinoplasty aims to emphasize the natural features of the nose while maintaining its unique symmetry and structure.

Functional Rhinoplasty

This procedure is performed in our transgender women who – in the process of facial feminization – may decide to purse reduction rhinoplasty to create a more feminine appearance to their faces. This may involve dorsal hump reduction, reduction of the nasal tip, and even the nasal ala

During your initial consultation with Dr. Salgado, it is important to bring up any concerns you may have regarding the procedures. You must also share the details of your medical history along with the current status of your health.

The method Dr. Salgado will employ depends mainly on the natural shape and size of your body, as well as your goals. So it is vital to come with an open mind and realistic expectations about the outcome of each procedure.

Heavy smokers and drinkers must refrain from their vices for at least one month before surgery. It is equally important to keep these habits on hold as you recover as its effects may complicate and delay your recovery.

You must also cease from taking any medications, including ibuprofen and blood thinners unless specified by Dr. Salgado and your doctor.

In addition, it is advised that you not eat or drink for at least eight hours before surgery. Commonly you will have nothing to eat or drink after midnight prior to your surgery day.

Dr. Salgado will use general anesthesia for the procedure or an epidural catheter. However, if specified, local anesthesia through IV sedation can be administered. This is all done by board-certified anesthesiologists.
