The Tummy Tuck Procedure
Before The Procedure
You will first undergo an initial consultation with Dr. Salgado, during which he will evaluate your body and its areas of concern, as well as your medical history. He will perform various tests and examinations that will determine the ideal technique to address the laxity of your abdominal area and evaluate for hernias or a rectus diastasis.
Dr. Salgado will also confirm if you are an ideal candidate for a tummy tuck during the consultation and if concomitant liposuction is needed or liposuction alone. In addition, an evaluation of the genital region may be performed to ensure that any cosmetically or functionally undesirable anatomy may be surgically addressed.
During The Procedure
A tummy tuck surgery is an outpatient procedure that takes 3 – 5 hours to complete often under general anesthesia. Dr. Salgado will use a surgical pen to mark ideal incision sites on your abdomen. He may perform liposuction to remove some stubborn fat from your abdomen or hips as well.
Incisions will be made on the marked areas, and Dr. Salgado will tighten the abdominal muscles using special sutures if warranted. The skin will be lifted and repositioned to create a better contour and shape, and excess skin will be trimmed away. A new opening will be made for your belly button, and it will be sutured in place with dissolvable sutures.

Full Tummy Tuck
A traditional procedure that removes excess fat and skin from the abdomen while also tightening the muscles at the same time. Incisions are made from hip bone to hip bone, allowing Dr. Salgado to access the majority of the tummy area and lift the skin vertically for a tighter fit and better contour.
The belly button or umbilicus is also repositioned to a more youthful position in the full tummy tuck procedure.
Mini Tummy Tuck
A less intensive form of tummy tuck that only removes skin from the lower half of the abdomen, making it ideal for patients with heavy sagging in the area. The bottom half of the abdominal muscles may be tightened to create a flatter, more proportional contour.
In this procedure, the umbilicus retains its original position.
Extended Tummy Tuck
This is a technique that is often needed for patients who have lost a large amount of weight in a short period of time, leaving them with patches of unsightly loose skin.
The incision for this procedure extends all the way around the hips, and every muscle along the area will be tightened to reshape the abdomen. Dr. Salgado will refit your skin to conform to your new contour, and any excess skin will be removed.
Drains will often be left in and later removed in the office during this procedure.
